RJ Hill Laboratory Concept design-Waikato Innovation Park
Sekta Architects Ltd were engaged by Waikato Innovation park to undertake concept design for the proposed RJ Hill laboratory to be located at the Ruakura Road site. WIP recognised very early that in order for the process to be a success required an Architect with the ability to utilise today's 3D/BIM technology and work collaboratively with other design team members. An ability to visulaise the concept to give the tenant / client a complete visual and spatial understanding in 3 dimensions was a top priority.
Creating a parametric model of the concept enabled Sekta to provide base quantities of primary construction elements for the pricing team. The design was entirely process driven, it was a direct result of the efficient arrangement of the various groups to create the most efficient process flow. A building was created around the process to house it and provide flexibility for future expansion of the facility.
Additionally, the design had to fulfil the landlord requirements for a building that if vacated had the ability to function with various uses / tenants. The main central atrium, a dominant feature of the design provided the flexibility to achieve this.
